Learnin' Spells, the Dema Way
Ladies and Gentlemen, Blue Mage 50 is mine!
And with it, that slight feeling of "gimp"ishness that you get when you KNOW that you don't have everything you should have for your level.
Its like that level 58 WHM without Raise II, or that level 37 WHM in crawler's nest without Erase, or that lv.53 RDM in Kuftal Tunnel without Dispel. So too, did I feel slightly inadequate when I hit 50, as I didn't have any of the spells a level 50 BLU can learn, and I was in fact still missing Stinking Gas, a level 44 spell (more on that later!)
I quickly girded myself up last night as BLU/WHM, and invited Resurrection LS buddy Meenkieblade (BLU55) along for the ride to Beaucadine Glacier, where I hoped to learn Ice Break from the Golems there. We met Saik on the way, and the three of us proceeded to bash the living hell out of ever Golem (and Evil Eye mobs for "Eyes on Me for Meenkie) we could find.
We must have been there an hour and a half to two hours, and in that time we saw Ice Break used 3 times..... and I didn't learn it any of them.... FRUSTRATION!!
So we decided to change tact and mobs. My other level 50 spells were Frightful Roar and Self-Destruct (which I had actually learned earlier, now I think about it >.>). Frightful Roar there was no way we could get without more help, so we went on to try and get Cold Wave and Filamented Hold: both level 52 spells.
Since we were near, we headed to Pso'Xja which I had never been to before. It struck me as quite a sad place, with very muted, understated music. It was also rather pretty yet dank at the same time, thanks to some rather nifty lighting effects!
I need to take more screenies.
Anyways, we found some Snowballs in the bit of Pso'Xja we went to. They were Easy Prey-Decent Challenge for me, and we whupped on them with abandon. We probably went through 5 pairs of Snowballs, during which time Saik logged and went to bed (it being almost 3am or something) and yet eventually we both learned Cold Wave.... from the same mob! /cheer

Whilst down in Pso'Xja, we also hacked into some Diremites. Diremites look stupid: FACT! There are MANY dumb-looking monsters in this game, but Diremites are definitely one of the silliest! Fortunately, they also like to spam Filamented Hold, so we got that fairly quickly!
Since Saik was gone, we said we'd get one more ability, so we headed to one of my favourite locations: Castle Zvahl. Demons at the entrance conned DC to EM.... slightly higher than I was expecting. They, fortunately, love to spam Hecatomb Wave, which is nice. Also nice is the fact that Demonic Howl, which they use constantly, DOESN'T overwrite Refuelling, our nice self-haste, so we slapped away with abandon. I almost died from a rather nasty Bio II, but in the end we got the spell! Huzzah!
Then I went to bed, due to tiredness and stuff. But I didn't sleep much. After about an hour of restless sleep I got back up, logged in again, and went to LFG on BLU with the aim of getting 51 and my nice Dark Staff for easier MP resting. I got an invite almost straight away, which was nice, but alarm bells were ringing in my head, and I didn't realise until conversing with Saik much later tonight why they were going off.
On paper, BLU, BLU, BLU, RDM, COR, SMN looks like a decent party. I've seen BLU-burns, I've been in them, and I know how effective they can be.
But I left this party in Kuftal Tunnel after 40 minutes, during which we fought 4 mobs.... 4..... and we WERE fighting the whole time too! At 50, I was far too low to be fighting crabs in Kuftal Tunnel. I hate crabs anyways, but seeing my scimitars and bludgeon hit for 0 all the time was depressing. I apologised to the party, disbanded, and Insta-Warped.... the first time I think I've ever done that.
Oh, and it turns out that the alarm bells were going off in my head because the leader of the party was Krista, who was the SMN.... Look at one of Saik's earlier blogs for what we said about her when we partied with her WHM.
Anyways, Rhikku has demanded that I stop levelling until her PLD can catch up. Since I like Rhik's parties, I shall oblige for the moment. She best get ToAU tho, cos I really don't wanna go back to levelling on crabs, and there are some nice alternatives coming up in the ToAU areas.
So, while waiting for Rhik to catch up, I went to go and get that elusive Stinking Gas from Garlaige Citadel earlier. It is a level 44 spell, but the mobs that use it are either in capped areas, or much higher, or on a 24hr timer >.>
Edari offered up his RDM64/NIN32 to help, so we took off to the basement of Garlaige Citadel, through the Over Weapon and Vault Weapon tunnel, to where two Tainted Flesh hang out, being big, fat, and generally weird-looking!
We did manage to get Stinking Gas in the end, but not before the fact that we got horribly raped by some aggroing weapons (3 of them) and spent several minutes laying around in two different parts of the basement.... Edari delevelled in the process ; ; so thanks for still helping me out Ed!
And now you are up to date...
