Saikyo~ Desperately Seeking Adventure

Haven't played much FFXI since the last post. Why not?

#1: The idea of levelling up isn't a very palatable one. I've got a selection of underlevelled subs (WAR30, THF33, WHM33) none of which I have any urge to level up whatsoever. I don't enjoy playing THF or WHM anyway, and I don't have enough space to buy any WAR gear. Plus my axe and g-axe skills are mightily underlevelled, and skilling up is tedious beyond reason.

#2: The new jobs seem quite fun, but the idea of Valkurm > Quifim > Jungles > Garlaige YET AGAIN is enough to make run for the hills.

#3: Although BRD is still my main and offers my only chance of seeing the game post lvl 70, I can't get my levelling socks on. I managed 7 levels of BRD In 8 months last year because it was an exercise in boredom. Being treated like a doormat by the rest of the PT doesn't help; work your ass off for 99% of the PT for no thanks, then miss a single Ballad in a crisis and suddenly its "OMFG n00b BRD WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Blow my trumpet, bitch.

#4: Most (although admittedly not all) of the new fish are oddly pointless. You can't make anything out of them, and you can't trade them to a Zaldon style NPC for a chance at items. So instead, all you can do is sell them to some random NPC for 50 or something.

#5: No sense of adventure. As I mentioned, to play the new jobs I'll be going through exactly the same route I've gone through with every other job. The new expansion has some nice pretty areas, but I can't do anything in them. I know Dema is interested in doing Assault missions, but that still leaves us four members short. =.=

A combination of the above reasons means its becoming awfully hard to justify setting aside 3-4 hours on an evening to play. (As it invariably seems to take that long to achieve anything). So the FFXI desktop icon has been sadly untouched. When I have logged in, it's usually been to watch my moogle spin for 20 minutes prior to logging out.

It's bad, because I came back to the game fired up to play after the four month break, but very quickly remembered all the reasons I had lost interest originally. Dema says its all down to expecting the worst from every PT I join, and there's a healthy dose of truth in that, but I could overcome that when the sense of adventure and advancement was there. Now everything just feels like a pointless grind. I want to have an {adventure} damnit!
