England Vs Paraguay & Windows Vista

Yesterday was notable for two things:

1) England beating Paraguay in the World Cup
2) Me installing Windows Vista Beta 2

The World Cup bit...

It is no secret that I am not a football fan (or soccer as you yankies call it). I've never really seen the appeal of watching a bunch of overpaid individuals kicking a ball around a pitch for 90 minutes.

However, I am fairly patriotic. Thus, despite myself, I found myself watching England vs Paraguay round at Rich's house yesterday. There were quite a few people there: Saik, me, Dave, Kate, Rich and Leeann, plus Lee's brother and his chav mates later in the day. The first half was greatly entertaining. England scored in the 3rd minutes, Beckham with a power ball into the top right of the net that one of Paraguay's players tried to deflect with his head and ended up nudging it further out of the Paraguay goalie's reach. During the first half we proceeded to outplay Paraguay severely. Alas in the second half, we seemed to lose momentum, and Paraguay seemed to gain some. Nevertheless, they didn't score. Final score was England 1-0 Paraguay. Huzzah!!

Windows Vista Beta 2

Despite weighing in at a rather hefty 3.5 gig download, I nevertheless left the PC on Friday night to download the Vista Beta 2. I then spent Saturday morning installing it, which went nice and smooth, unlike the last time I tried to install a Windows OS on a partition which, sadly, fucked my whole computer up.

Today I installed the Wireless Network adapter on vista cos quite a few bits of hardware stopped working on the Vista OS. For some reason, however, despite me knowing I have installed the adapter correctly, and despite the OS being able to detect the Wireless network, I can't actually connect to it. This is, to say the least, frustrating.

Anyways, impressions of Vista so far. It is very pretty to look at, it streamlines a lot of the stuff that I do regularly, it has some nifty screensavers(!), and all in all it seems pretty darned straightforwards. However, the fact that my sound drivers have disappeared and that I can't currently connect to the internet with it, make it a bit redundant as an OS to test. Am gonna fiddle about with it later, but the PC currently is working on its XP partition since I need to d/l last night's episode of Dr. Who, which I missed cos of being round Rich's flat.

Oh, I've also fixed my issues with Limewire on the PC, tho its still not working on the laptop properly. Oh well. At least I have some speakers for the PC now so its not all a huge hassle.

FFXI Stuff

Haven't been on FFXI much this week. Popped on to play the AH a bit last night, but nothing drastic. There weren't many people on, and it is too damned hot to XP properly anyways. I'll get back into it when I head back to Lancaster at the end of next week. Probably.

~That's all for now.
