X3, Bad Eyesight and Limewire...
Yes Ladies and Gents, this blog once again has nothing to do with FFXI. Doesn't matter tho... doesn't claim to be "The Adventures of Demajen and Saikyo in FFXI" so I can get away with it :)
So, 3 things in this post.
1) Firstly Saik and myself (as well as several of our friends) went to Watch "X-Men: The Last Stand" last night. I must admit I expected it to be rubbish - very few final films in trilogies stand in my mind as being good. Fortunately, it was not rubbish. Let me list some of my good points and bad points. Spoilers abound!!:
The Good Points:
- Famke Jannsen as Phoenix ~ sure she had about 6 lines in the film, but hey, she looked great!!
- Patrick Stewart ~ only Charles Xavier could smile as he is blasted into millions of atoms. what a guy!
- Ian McKellen ~ when the first X-Man film came out, me and Saik were admittedly aghast at the casting of Sir Ian as Magneto. He was a skinny old man, not a buff beast in purple lycra. But in X3 he shows off some of the coolest things about being able to control metal - lifting the Golden Gate bridge and taking the piss out of Wolverine. Two things I wish I could do without Wolverine skewering me.
- Vinny Jones ~ as a brit, the sheer inclusion of him as Juggernaut entertained me no end!!
- The End "fight" when Phoenix blows shit up. Ok it wasn't much of a battle, but I like cool special FX!!
- Juggernaut throwing Wolverine through the roof of one room and him coming down through the roof of the next room.
- Scott Summers getting owned at the start of the film. I hate Cyclops.
The Bad Points:
- Ice Man and Fire Boy (or whatever he's called) - what a waste of special FX budget
- Magneto's Lackeys ~ to put it in Saik's words.... "What did we have? Move Very Fast Woman, Porcupine Boy, and Vinnie Jones in a polystyrene helmet".... or something close to that anyways... They were rather uninspiring!
- Rogue's mere presence in the film. It looked like half of her scenes were cut in final editting as her storyline was barely there.
The Better Than Last Film Points:
I'm not saying these things were "OMG AWESOME!" but they were an improvement on X1/2
- Storm ~ She was crap in 1 and 2. She wasn't MUCH better in 3, but she did at least have some special FX budget spent on her this time! Best bit was blasting Move Very Fast Woman into a fence and electifying her.
- Wolverine ~ enough of the backstory. Let Logan tear shit up. A lot. Best Bit: slashing off Many Arms Man's arms, then giving up and kicking him in the nuts to finish him off. Worst bit: the rather cheesy bit at the end just after he'd killed the love of his life.
- Jean Grey/Phoenix ~ ok so X3 doesn't exactly stick to the Marvel canon story about Phoenix, but at least Jean got to DO SOMETHING in X3 as opposed to being just fit and rather bland in previous films. And the bit with her and Wolverine at the end looked really cool!! In fact, out of all the characters that died in X3, she's the only one I felt sorry for.
Over All:
It was short and pretty sweet. There could have been a ton more character development (who was "the Cure" anyways?!) but there was plenty of action to suit a special FX fan. 8/10

2) Bad Eyesight
Watching X3 in the cinema reminded me just how bad my eyesight must be getting. Even with my glasses on I found myself straining my eyes a little. They've never been good in darkened rooms I admit, but I think they're getting worse. Back to the Opticians for me next week I think!
3) Limewire
One of my friends swears by it. When Saik was round earlier today he demanded that I d/l songs, cos he doesn't really like my music collection at all. I mentioned that I don't have a great deal to d/l songs with. BitTorrent is pretty useless for d/ling music. So I d/led Limewire and tried it out. Its pretty fast and has a lot of stuff to d/l. Will get back to ya on how I get on.
Oh, and I feel much better than yesterday. Thank god!
