October Report

As previously mentioned, I've curbed my FFXI playing lately due to the demands of my Masters, and simply not enjoying the hour spent sitting around LFG (even on BRD).

A while back I wrote myself a list of goals - mostly equipment-related - that I hoped would keep me fresh and interested in the game. But to no avail. 90% of them I will never get to see, and they all cost a stupid amount even now with all the deflation on Pandemonium. Each and every piece of equipment on that list would make me a better DRK, but I barely care enough about DRK to play it anymore. Its just "that job I bothered to get to 75" rather than a crowning achievement of my FFXI, unequalled.

I now have 5 jobs at 60+: DRK75, WHM63, RDM61, THF61, WAR61. I was hoping that once I got WAR to 60+ that the invites would continue to keep coming. I was to be horribly disappointed. Just like they were on DRK, invites slow to a standstill around 60. So this leaves me with a terrible choice: what job to level to 60 then forget about next.... >.>;;

Well, to inject some positivity into this post, my Paladin is doing pretty well, even if I'm only levelling it for 3 hours a week with our Ansible Static. These last few weeks we've been to Altepa and Bibiki Bay for some XP fun, made pretty good XP and have just hit 35 (giving me Auto-Refresh and Cover, thank God!) In two levels time I know Saik is gonna tag out for Warrior 37 so I'm gonna have to work even harder to hold hate, but as long as he subs NIN so he doesn't get himself too battered, then I'm down with that (I have a nice Great Axe for him to blatt things with too!) It won't be long before we hit 40 it seems, and hopefully over Christmas break we'll have a bit of a push since we get a bit more time off.

So, what OTHER jobs do I want to level. Well, let's see:

Blue Mage
My BLU is at a rather irritating level 58. I've probably mentioned this before, but 58 is a stupid level to leave anything. I should get it to 61 just to continue the trend. I also need to get my BLU AF hat even if I never do anything else with this job, cos at the moment there are 4 pieces of AF sat in my mog locker that I would rather like to be able to put into storage - space continues to be an issue. While my BLU doesn't really have great equipment, it is passable to level 60 at least. I think maybe I should prioritise this, as lv.58 really is a dumb level to leave a job at.

Samurai
My SAM is at level 18 currently, and I am slowly levelling it, first and foremost, as a subjob. However, I do rather enjoy SAM I must admit, and I wouldn't mind taking it higher, especially having seen what it is like in merit parties where it can kick my ass at damage on DRK (though saying that, BRD and WHM kick my ass too o.O;;) SAM is kinda a pet project for me I think, but 18 is just a silly level where people don't invite you. Hell, I don't mind going back to the Dunes for just two levels. It wouldn't KILL me (emotionally maybe, but not PHYSICALLY!) Over New Year, Saik let me play on his SAM60. It was great fun. He let me play on it again a few months ago. I enjoyed SAM at that level. I wouldn't necessarily have had the same equipment setup as Saik, but I have a weird playstyle for DD jobs (and hell, I use sushi on PLD!) So yeah, SAM is a definite maybe as next job to 60+.

Monk
Another job that Saik has levelled - I'm such a sheep. But no seriously, MNKs rock. I've always known MNKs rock. They're USEFUL endgame, they get cool abilities, they get snazzy orange AF. My MNK is level 14 at time of writing this. The plan is to level it kind of in tandem with SAM, since 90% of their equipment is the same. I can get both to 37, then see where I want to go from there.

Corsair
I admit, I want to level Corsair just for the AF armour. But I KNOW I can't afford it. I have about 300K in the bank at the moment, mostly because I keep buying HQ equipment for PLD ~_~;; I think I really need to assess my finances, because at the moment, I have no gil income and a high gil outcome. This, obviously, will cripple me in FFXI because of its crap and boring crafting system. It will certainly cripple any chance to level COR. Obs in the Ansible static is using close to 5 stacks of bullets per 3-hr stretch. That's about 50k a party. Doesn't sound TOO bad, but thats at lv.35. Come level 50 I imagine the story will be different. So yes, I want the AF, but I don't want the cost. COR will probably always be a pipe dream.

Bard
I have good equipment for BRD. But I have spent 7hrs in 4 sitting LFG on BRD and not getting any invites. This narks me. I know lv.30 is an iffy level, but still... I'm a BRD!!! Not like I have to hit things. Invite me to Garlaige for God's sake!!!!

So what am I going to do...?
Well, priority no.1 is to sell anything I'm not using. I have a few pieces of equipment that have been sat around for ever not being used. Eg. my Seer's stuff. If I can help it, i'm never gonna use it again for anything. And if I do need it, i can buy the Normal quality stuff. I need to sort out everything in storage and send it to mules, which are looking a bit empty these days. Basically I need to not level for a night and simply assess what the hell I should get rid of, and what jobs I actually have equipment for. Fun fun fun! Then I can decide where to go after this...

I will tell ya how I get on.... Dema out~
